area, and as part of this policy we plant and erect hanging baskets
within the area, further to this we plant flower boxes and
build-outs, creating a pleasant visual appearance throughout the
area. We also work closely with the Local authority and residents on
alleviating the environmental problems within the area.
The Park Community Centre has become the foundation
stone of a united, informed and socially aware Community within the
Park Area of Weymouth. The Forum uses the contact with the local
residents to promote the benefits of the area in which we live,
attempting to develop a sense of pride in the area along with a
desire to maintain its infrastructure and to work together in
tackling the social problems all communities face today, such as
Drugs, crime and other anti social behaviour issues. The Community
Forum already has at its heart an enviable Volunteer base, who
underpins everything that we do, the Community Centre provides the
opportunity for local residents to get involved in shaping and
supporting our work. We aim to empower the community to help
themselves and to promote the benefits of Volunteering.
Social inclusion,
we live in a multi cultural society and within the Park Area of
Weymouth and Portland we are beginning to attract a more diverse
ethnic community into the area. All ethnic groups are supported
through our policy of equal opportunities. The opportunities we
offer have helped many aspects of their lives and have helped us
develop a stronger and more diverse Volunteer base.
The continued Development of the Community Centre
will enable us to set up specific activities targeted at encouraging
the elderly to get out of their homes and benefit from the Community
spirit within the area.
Further education,
the training and continued learning opportunities we
will be able to offer local residents has the potential to change
people’s lives for the better, aimed initially at the unemployed and
single parents, the skills we offer will improve peoples chances of
gaining employment.
Health and fitness,
The opening of the Community Centre will allow the
Waterside Weymouth Community Forum to facilitate a number of health
and fitness classes for the benefit of the Community, We also plan
to work in partnership with the Weymouth and Portland Borough
Council’s Healthy Living team, to include in our program of events
dedicated support groups such as: no smoking and weight watcher
programs.
Community
spirit,
The most obvious benefit from a Community Centre
located within the heart of the residential area will be the ability
of local residents to get involved, meet new people and make
friends, all of which helps to build a stronger community spirit
with in the area.
